Only 113 km northeast of Winnipeg, lies the R.M. of Alexander. Stretching from the eastern shores of Lake Winnipeg east into the Whiteshell and north into the Canadian Shield, this 1,521 sq. km. region is serviced by six modern highways. Its year-round population of 2,500 explodes to over 20,000 in the summer. It offers parkland, beaches, forest, agriculture, industry and the amenities of both urban and rural settings, and is the hydro power centre of Manitoba.
Below is a copy of the recently produced Rural Municipality of Alexander Civic Addressing Handbook. This document was initially developed for administrative purposes but it was our feeling it may be of some real value for Emergency Services Personnel particularly those individuals who may not necessarily know the municipality.

Fire Ban/ATV's/ORV's
FIRE BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT – NO ATV/ORV USE PERMITTED
May 30, 2025 - NO ATVs MAY BE OPERATING ANYWHERE IN THE MUNICIPALITY INCLUDING ROADS. TICKETS WILL BE ISSUED TO ANYONE CAUGHT OPERATING ONE. They will be charged under the Provincial Offences Act (POA by-law). First fine is $250.00, second fine $500.00 and any beyond $1,000.00.
In Manitoba - and most Canadian jurisdictions - ATV's and ORV's are umbrella terms that cover a wide range of motorized vehicles for off-road use. Under provincial legislation like Manitoba's Off-Road Vehicles Act, here's what is included: ● Quads / Four-wheelers ● Side-by-sides / UTVs (Utility Task Vehicles) ● Dirt bikes / Trail bikes (motorized, off-road) ● 3-wheelers (less common but still included) ● Dune buggies ● Argos / amphibious off-road vehicles ● Mini-bikes / pocket bikes (off-road use)
The fire ban includes all off-road vehicles—quads, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, and even golf carts—whether gas or electric. If it's motorized and off-road, it's not permitted at this time.
Fire Ban in Effect
