Municipal and Northern Relations Property Assessment Services is responsible for the assessment of all real and personal property in the province, excluding property in the City of Winnipeg, delivered through 10 District Offices. The City of Winnipeg is responsible for property assessment services in Winnipeg.
In Manitoba, property is assessed at market value in accordance with The Municipal Assessment Act. Market value is the most probable selling price of the property had it been sold by a willing seller to a willing buyer. Regular reassessments ensure that property assessments keep pace with real estate market conditions, and taxes are distributed fairly to property owners.
If you do not agree with your assessment, your first step would be to contact Property Assessment Services at 204.785.5092 or assessmentselkirk@gov.mb.ca. If you still are not satisfied you may appeal the assessment at the Board of Revision.
Manitoba’s property assessment services are now digitally available. Property owners outside the City of Winnipeg can access their assessment notice by creating an account on the MyPropertyMB digital portal. Please note that you will need your client number from your assessment notice.
Through the portal, property owners have access to enhanced details of their property assessment, such as buildings assessed on their property, characteristics including building age, size, and features that impact the assessed value.
