2026 Municipal Election

2026 is a Municipal Election year that will take place on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Below is some general information if you are considering running for office and information on voter eligibility.

According to Section 90(1) of the Municipal Act, in order to qualify as a candidate for municipal council, a person must be:
  • A Canadian citizen;
  • At least 18 years of age on Election Day;
  • A resident of Manitoba;
  • A qualified voter of the municipality (has either resided or owned property in the municipality for at least 6 months before Election Day);
  • Not subject to disqualification under the Municipal Act or any other Act.

Registering as a Municipal Candidate


Prospective municipal election candidates must register with the Senior Election Officials (SEO) during the registration period before they may begin to accept contributions, incur expenses, fundraise or borrow money for their campaign.


NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that candidate registrations will be received:

For the office of Head of Council:      Between May 1, 2026 and September 22, 2026 

For the office of Councillor:                Between June 30, 2026 and September 22, 2026 

At the Rural Municipality of Alexander office, 1 Bouvier Trail, St Georges, Manitoba, during the regular hours of business.

Registration Forms may be obtained at the Rural Municipality of Alexander office or by contacting the SEO at the email or telephone number listed below.

All prospective candidates must register with the SEO during the registration period, before they begin their campaign. Once they are registered with the SEO, they can get constituents to sign their nomination papers.

Nomination papers will be accepted between September 16, 2026 and September 22, 2026.
